RE

Our curriculum will enable children to develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate, respect and appraise the different aspects of the religions that are part of our own school community.

Through a deliberately sequenced RE curriculum, children at Old Moat will engage in systematic enquiry by asking questions, exploring beliefs, values and traditions that shape world religions. Our curriculum will enable children to develop the understanding and skills needed to appreciate, respect and appraise the different aspects of the religions that are part of our own school community. Children are encouraged to freely share their own experiences of religion during RE lessons and we welcome all opportunities to make links with families and the community to support this too.

The RE curriculum is taught to children from EYFS to KS2 and teaching units are informed by the Manchester Agreed Syllabus underpinned by the three strands of ‘believing, expressing and living’.

As children move through the school, we want them to explore big questions about life, to find out what people believe and what difference this makes to how they live, so that children can make sense of religion, reflecting on their own ideas and ways of living. The knowledge and skills developed across the school throughout the years will enable children to participate positively and respectfully in our society, with its diverse religions and world views.
